  1. It looks to me like those specific pictures were taken at either sunrise or sunset.  Since the sun's rays have to travel through "more" atmosphere during those times, more "blue" is scattered by the Nitrogen, Oxygen and other gases.  Additionally, any particulate in the upper atmosphere from pollution (man-made [e.g., airplane exhaust] and natural [e.g., volcanic ash - and there are a lot in Iceland which isn't too far away]) causes the skies to turn anywhere from purple to red and the colors in-between.

So, if I had to guess, I'd say it was the sun's reflection off of a glacier at sunrise or sunset, through a break in the clouds.

The long yellow line on the other hand... I have no idea.  Unless it's a weird fracture in the glacier that's further scattering / absorbing light... I couldn't venture a guess.

  2. Whoooooa!  Now I am totally captivated and will probably dream about it and keep returning here until I learn, too!  What the heck IS it????

  3. I'm pretty sure it's the top of a long rock formation there, I did a little research and there tends to be a good amount of orange colored rocks there. My speculation is that the wind has blown off the snow in that area and you can see the rocks.

  4. This looks like where the map pictures have been stitched together.  It is the largest but not the only such one in that section of the map.  Zoom out and take a look to the south west.  There is a dark line there parallel to the yellow box.  If you take a close look at Green land from a higher view you can see several large boxes at an angle where the ground is more visible.
