Hugh McCutcheon leads U.S. Women's Volleyball Team into 2011 FIVB Grand Prix
The Head Coach of the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team, Hugh McCutcheon, is considered as one of the world’s best coaches as he leads his team into the 2011 FIVB World Grand Prix, which is scheduled to take place from August 5 to 28.
A total of sixteen women’s volleyball teams from all around the world will be on board to compete for the title and Team USA is one of the top contenders in the tournament. The Americans will enter the competition as defending champions as they defeated
their archrival Brazil in the final showdown of the previous edition of the championship in 2010.
When McCutcheon was attached with team as the head coach, he successfully accomplished the task of leading his team to victory. In the year 2009, U.S. Team had finished in the 9th slot but he had the vision to see his team on the podium. The great
hard-work of players and commitment of Coach Hugh brought helped U.S. to settle for gold, the very next year.
Hugh McCutcheon comes with wealth of experience as he has been coaching since 90s. He offered his services to Men’s National Team for a considerable time. He proved his extra-ordinary skills and played a great part in the overall growth of American Team.
He took over the charge of National Women’s Volleyball Squad of USA in 2009 and led them to triumph many a time.
Right after completion of 2010 FIVB Grand Prix, shocking news hit the block as Hugh decided to accept the job of head coach at University of Minnesota. However, it was crucial time for Team USA as they were up for mega event of 2012 London Olympics. Keeping
this in view, Hugh acceded to the request of USA Volleyball (USAV) and confirmed his association with U.S. National team up till 2012 London Olympic Games.
In a recent interview for a local journal in New Zealand, McCutcheon dropped out thoughts about his job at the University of Minnesota. He stated: “We had achieved all the goals we had set out to do and I thought it would be
interesting to apply some of the principles we had been using with the men and see what it was like to coach women. I’d never coached women before. I didn’t want to keep reinventing the same wheel [with the men]. I thought I knew a lot about international
volleyball and it would be good to apply it to a different population.”
McCutcheon will stay with the U.S. team and they are ready take up the challenge this year. With Brazil and Russia in the tournament, the Americans are expecting an uphill battle.
