Hugh Morris pays tribute to Tom Maynard – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hugh-Morris-c63550, managing director of the England and Wales Cricket Board, spoke words of praise at the funeral of deceased Surrey batsman Tom Maynard, claiming that the youngster had not only possessed rare talent, but also been a likable and well-known figure
in the world of English cricket.
"The presence of so many members of the cricket community tells me Tom was not only a player blessed with extraordinary talent, but somebody whose sense of fun and enjoyment made him a hugely popular figure within our game," said Morris, who is also a former
Glamorgan captain.
"What saddens me so much is that we have not only lost a hugely popular and colourful character, but one of the most exciting and explosive young batsmen."
The sudden death of Maynard, 23, shocked the cricketing world when it was revealed, on June 18, that his dead body had been discovered near the train tracks at the Wimbledon Park tube station. Moments before the discovery, the cricketer’s car had been stopped
by the police, for driving “erratically”.
Maynard, however, had fled the scene on foot, and was later found dead near the train tracks in West London. A forensic report revealed that the cause of death had been electrocution, after the player came into contact with the live rail. He also suffered
injuries as a result of being hit by the train. An investigation into his death is ongoing, with an inquest having been opened and adjourned until September 24 at the Westminster Coroner's Court.
His death prompted tributes from all quarters, with teammates and other sportsmen lamenting the loss of talent. The right-hander started his cricketing career with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 team.
