Hugh Robertson not in favour of revealing London 2012 Olympic Games ticketing information yet
The Minister of the London 2012 Olympic Games, Hugh Robertson, has not given an affirmative to making the ticketing process of the Olympic Games completely transparent in response to the demands of the Human Rights Watch.
The report released by the Human Rights Watch recently held the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games responsible for having a ticketing process that is too secretive and prone to corruption. This reason had been cited by the human rights group
to argue with the London 2012 organisers to be more transparent and give the taxpayer an account of their doings with regard to ticket sales up till this point. The total sum of money that is being invested by the British taxpayer into the Olympic event which
is set to start from July 27 is $14.6 billion.
However, Robertson had argued that the ticketing process of the London 2012 Olympic Games had been experiencing problems since the time that the first sales were made and the London organisers did not think it was the right time to make all the information
public regarding ticket sales at this point.
Robertson expressed himself on the matter in the following words while he was at the Olympic Velodrome at the Track World Cup cycling event, “I think it's unreasonable to ask. This is the middle of a very big, complicated ticketing operation -- they're trying
to market tickets for 26 simultaneous world championships in one day. It's an operation that has never, ever been done before.”
Despite the reluctance of the London Olympics organisers to divulge all ticketing information at this point, they have committed to complying to the request of the London assembly by providing the information after the ticket sales have reached their completion.
There are still tickets left to be sold but the potential buyers will not get a chance at buying them until April.
The London assembly quoted the examples of other Olympic organising bodies such as that of Sydney which were able to provide ticketing information long time before the time it has taken the London 2012 organisers to do so.
