Hughie Morrison hoping for change of fortunes for his fillies
Veteran trainer Hughie Morrison is expecting some solid performances from a couple of his fillies Shirocco Star and Coquet. Both of them have not been able to make a solid impression since the start of their career and are under immense pressure at the moment.
They need some luck to deliver top quality results in the upcoming events.
“It was a very frustrating campaign because Shirocco Star was runner-up in two Classics [the Oaks and Irish Oaks], and I felt she could have won one, while Coquet was wiped out in the Oaks when looking very strong in the closing stages,” said Morrison.
Speaking about Coquet, Morrison added: “She seems to have done well over the winter and I hope she can gain some reward. She basically needs fast ground, certainly no worse than good.”
Out of the two runners Shirocco Star has been really unlucky and needs a change in fortunes pretty quickly. Her overall record is not a bad one at all, but she has failed to maintain a good winning percentage, which is such a disappointing thing. She has
come close to winning races on numerous occasions, but failed consistently, which has been disappointing for his team and the fans.
Overall, the four-year-old filly has participated in a total of nine events, winning just one of them whereas finished in third place on the same number of times. If you just look that these statistics, you will feel that she is quite an ordinary performer.
However, things are entirely different, when it comes to her runner up finishes in the sport. She has secured this position on six times, which shows that she is quite capable of fighting at the front, but lacks the confidence of converting her form into
victories.
On the other hand, Coquet has been lucky, when it comes to winning races, as she has managed to succeed thrice in her career. However, her recent form has been pathetic and she has simply failed to score enough victories for her team. She will need to make
a big improvement in order to turn the tables around. Otherwise her confidence will continue getting worse.
