Hughie Morrison’s charge Coquet to triumph in the Height of Fashion Stakes at Goodwood
Looks like Coquet is finally ready to make a comeback in the Height of Fashion Stakes, which is scheduled to take place at Goodwood on 24th May, 2012. Over a distance of 1 mile, 1 furlong and 192 yards, she will be facing six
other runners.
Trainer Hughie Morrison is excited about her return, but admits that training this filly was not an easy task. The three-year-old previously competed in October, 2011, and will be racing after a six month lay-off.
Robert Havlin will be aboard the filly.
Morrison stated to the press that: "She wintered well but she didn't enjoy the cold, wet spring, so I had to back off her a bit. I probably maybe had to rush her a bit to get her ready for this, so I'd say she'll come on for the run."
The trainer further elaborated:
"She's a fairly straightforward, tough horse and as long as she stays a mile and a quarter, there should be some fun to be had. I'd be surprised if she was ready enough to win, but you never know, and that's why I left her in the Oaks."
In her previous three starts, the daughter of Sir Percy, out of mare One So Marvellous, finished fourth in her maiden, but showed progress, and bagged two consecutive victories after that. She will be running for her hat-trick in the Height of Fashion
Stakes.
Because the young runner has two victories, she qualifies for an entry in the Investec Oaks, which is due to take place at Epsom on 1st June, 2012.
The Hon Mary Morrison and Partners owned runner raced as a favourite with a 6-4 chance in the 32Red Casino Median Auction Maiden Stakes at Wolverhampton on 8th October, 2011, where under Robert Havlin, she demonstrated her superior
racing ability and defeated the Mahmood Al Zarooni trained, Captivity, by 2 ¼ lengths.
The bay filly performed an encore on 29th October, 2011, in the E B F "Mount Nelson" Montrose Fillies' Stakes at Newmarket, where she snatched the victory from, Abishena, by half-length.
Coquet comes to Goodwood in good form and hopes to take the money home.
