While talking on the columns of L’Equipe, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130’ recent run of poor results that have put their Champions League hopes under threat
Playing in the UEFA Champions League for Olympique Lyonnais is something the club’s fans have become accustomed to. For almost 12 years, the Rhone giants have proudly flown the flag of France in Europe and have many times, outdone themselves.
However, as things stand, both financially and sportingly, Lyon are in a crisis situation where the outcome of life without Champions League for even one season could be devastating.
Currently, Lyon are in seventh place in the Ligue 1 standings and are far away from LOSC Lille who occupy the third and last place for Champions League qualification. Moreover, qualifying for the Europa League could become hard too if the recent results
are put into context.
Les Gones made a mess of the month of February and the month of March started in similar fashion. The situation is certainly alarming for the Rhone giants whose finances are crippling. The club is no longer able to attract big stars and Jean-Michel Aulas
is desperate to find a wealthy investor from the Middle East who can help him control the financial situation.
However, sporting wise, things are bad too. Goalkeeper, Hugo Lloris has been left frustrated at what he has seen happen consistently over the last few weeks.
While talking to L’Equipe, Lloris said that the team does well against big teams but somehow, always disappoint when they play against teams that are below them in the league. The Frenchman feels taht everyone is lacking something this season.
Lloris also admitted that he could have done something more to avoid a few goals. the keeper’s future might also come under scrutiny if Lyon fail to play in Europe next season but Lloris has refused to talk about this delicate matter for now.
“I do not know and I do not ask myself this question today. It (UCL qualification) is mathematically possible and I believe. The season ends then there is Euro and I would be very selfish to start thinking about my future.”
Lloris also said that he wants to do something for the club and will not leave without winning anything.
