Hugo and Ricardo Santos playing at the Madeira Islands Opens – Portugal
Siblings, Hugo and Ricardo Santos teed off together once again at the Madeira Islands Opens – Portugal, performing as World Cup players.
In November 2011, they both have played at the Mission Hills World Cup in China and represented their country. Both the players are eager to score well at the Santo da Serra in Madeira, Portugal.
“This year there is more attention on us because we played in the World Cup last year,” said Ricardo. “That was an amazing experience and we were both very proud to represent Portugal.
“It was brilliant playing alongside so many huge names in golf. It’s one of my best experiences as a golfer.” Hugo said
“Ricardo and I have a very healthy rivalry, we always have had. We both want each other to play well and it’s great to see him on The European Tour this year. Of course it motivates me to do the same, and I’ll keep trying until I can’t try any more. It’s
hard, but I’ll keep trying”.
The first round of the tournament is over now. Ricardo scored a 4-under 68 impressively and shot five birdies and one bogey on Thursday. He finished four strokes behind the leader Alvaro Velasco, who scored an 8-under 64.
On the other hand, his brother, Hugo, faced tough challenges while scoring throughout the round. He made one birdie, one eagle, two bogeys and two double bogeys in total.
He finished the first round by scoring a 3-over 75 and he is in trouble now. He would be missing the cut in the second round, due to low scoring in the first.
The competition is tough in Portugal. All the European Tour players and Challenge Tour players are delivering their best to secure the winning prize money.
Ricardo has displayed an amazing game. He only has to improve his putting, so that he can score well and reach among the top-5 leaderboard positions. Consistent scoring will also help him till Sunday.
However, Hugo failed to score. He will be missing the cut in the second round. He still has a chance to make it to the third round. He only needs to score well and record at least a 5-under par scores on Friday.
