Hulk Hogan reveals he passed up The Wrestler’s lead role – Wrestling news
The legendary Hulk Hogan has been making some stunning revelations recently. His most current disclosure was regarding Darren Aronofsky’s movie The Wrestler.
According to Hollywood Hogan, the movie was first offered to him but he declined the offered for the flick’s own benefit.
The 58-year-old former WWE performer stated that the script was offered to him on three different occasions, however he turned it down considering himself misfit for it.
He revealed, “When the script for The Wrestler kept coming to me I said, This movie is so good if you put me in the film as a wrestler people are going to say, No credibility, Hulk Hogan isn't a good actor, whatever Hollywood thinks of me. As soon as they
put Mickey Rourke in there I knew it had a chance, and he did such a great, great job it relit his career.”
Mickey Rourke won an Oscar nomination for his performance in The Wrestler which definitely was a kick-start to his slumping acting career.
After this revelation, Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan, should be given credit for Mickey’s rebirth. The current TNA star further shared that he was also offered lead roles for high-profile movies like the Highlander and Little John in Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
However, he added, the declined those roles as well.
Even though Hogan once took on the person of ‘Hollywood Hogan’, he has always stayed away from mainstream Hollywood, sticking to his profession tightly unlike other popular wrestlers such as The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Shawn Michaels, Kane
and Kevin Nash.
All the aforementioned WWE performers have tried their luck in Hollywood to no avail except for The Rock who finally found his place in top-of-the-line movies such as Fast Five, The Mummy Returns, The Scorpion King, Tooth Fairy, and the like.
On the other hand, Mickey Rourke, who took a great start as an actor but soon shifted to boxing to see his stars plummeting, needed to prove his acting skills desperately. He finally won an Oscar nomination for lead role in the movie which finally gave him
the top spot in the industry. Later on, he featured in top-notch movies like Iron Man 2, Immortals and The Expendables.
