Hull FC beaten by Wigan Warriors 16-30 in a hard fought clash – Super Rugby Recap
The top ranked Wigan Warriors have bagged another win of 30-16 over Hull FC in their Engage Super Rugby XVI clash, on Friday, July 29 at the Kingston Communications (KC) Stadium.
With this defeat, Hulls are floating on the number eight spot within the Engage Super League table, as this is will be their fourth defeat out of five games they have played so far.
However, Warriors are probably celebrating the hard fought victory after surviving the Hull onslaught and keeping their number one standing. This win has allowed them to maintain their top spot on the Super League table but they had to pay the price for it in terms of unexpected injuries.
Hulls’ play-off position was jeopardised with this loss against Warriors and the record reveals that they have failed to win against Warriors even once in the last twenty eight months.
The inaugural try of the encounter was initiated by Hull just three minutes into the game. It seemed as if the Hulls were treading into the encounter to grab a much awaited victory over Warriors but the equation soon changed to put the Warriors in lead with four tries during the very first half of the game.
The opening try of the game was made by Kirk Yeaman, which is marked as his 19th try of the season. Hull managed to pressure the visitors initially but this spell of home side did not last too long.
However, the home side was tormented by the Warriors, who hit back in the second-half of the game. Punctuating the first-half with four tries coming from Sam Tomkins, Pat Richards and George Carmont, the visitors’ dominance over Hulls was soon cemented.
Tomkins scored a try which was then followed by two from Richards. Richards’ first try was in response to a pass from Danny Tickle and he had moved across the length of the entire field to score it successfully.
Richards’ contribution to the scoreboard just did not end with his second try as he added 18 more points to his side by scoring five goal kicks.
The performance of the Warriors was also studded with Carmont's try, which is his fifth in six league clashes.
For short spells of time, Hulls had sprung back to life to fight back Wigan. The highlight of their short lived revival was the 49th minute try by Manu that had left them only a score apart from Wigans.
When almost eight minutes were left on the clock, another try came from Tomkins, which had swept them to their eighth straight win. This has firmly placed them on the top position, three points ahead of Warrington Wolves, who are sitting on the second spot.
