Hull FC gives early extension to their talented hooker Danny Houghton – Rugby League News
Yorkshire based club, Hull Football Club (Hull FC), has announced the extension in stay of their hooker, Danny Houghton. Officials at the franchise have confirmed the re-singing of the back row forwards player, Houghton, in a statement released on their website on Tuesday, September 6.
Hull FC has stated that Houghton has agreed to extend his current deal by two years, which will keep him at the club until the end of 2013/14 season. He earned this new contract courtesy of his strong performance during the season, which includes 1,023 tackles for Hull during the season.
Houghton joined the club on a two-year deal, mid-way through the 2010/11 season, in place of the Australian hooker, Shaun Berrigan.
Houghton has expressed his delight on the signing the new two-year deal with the club. He said, “I am really happy with the way I am playing and happy at Hull FC, they are my club and I wouldn’t want to be playing anywhere else so it was an easy decision to make.”
Houghton admitted that he was not expecting a premature extension in his current contract. He expressed his desire to win the Super League or Challenge Cup title with the Hull FC. He further added, “I was really disappointed to miss out on the ’08 final and that sort of thing just makes you stronger and with the guys we have coming in next season there is no reason why we can’t challenge.”

Houghton has expressed satisfaction with the club’s recent squad and the performance in the season. He added, “Our current form now shows how good we can be and both individually and as a team we must continue that.”
However, Houghton will face stiff competition for the hooker jersey, particularly with the arrival of the Australian, Aaron Heremaia.
Houghton has acknowledged the qualities of Heremaia and expressed his confidence that they both will establish a good pair to bring success to the club. He added, “With Heremaia coming in next season too it’s quite exciting as we’ll both be competing for a spot in the side and no doubt we can help each other along with each others game.”
The 22-year-old Houghton made his professional debut for Hull FC against Harlequins RL in 2007. He has made 113 appearances for the Hull FC and has scored 56 points, all consisting of tries.
The Yorkshire born Houghton was named in the England Knights’ squad and hopefully will make his international debut later in the year.
