Hull FC in trouble after fan invades pitch and tackles player
Hull FC could be on the end of some punishment from the RFL following two cases of pitch invasions in their match against Leeds on Sunday.
The second case was especially worrying for the club as Leeds winger Scott Donald was tackled by a spectator who had made his way onto the pitch from the stands.
The Super League game had already been stopped in the sixth minute after man entered the field, ran in between Leeds players and imitated the famous Robbie Fowler celebration along the try-line before giving himself up to the stewards.
This isn’t the first time Hull FC have been landed in trouble with the authorities, as earlier this season Leeds fans allegedly had bottles of urine thrown at them from the home end during their Challenge Cup win.
But the incident involving try-scorer Donald has to raise security fears for next week’s derby clash and could hit the Black and Whites with a hefty fine ahead of their playoff campaign.
Donald told the Yorkshire Evening Post: "I was facing the play on the try line and he has come from somewhere behind me and tackled me from behind. I am not exactly sure where he came from, but in all honesty, he's just an idiot who has ruined a good game.
“You're not expecting it. At first I thought it was one of our subs or one of the water carriers had run into me. After turning around and seeing it was one of the supporters from the crowd, it was pretty disturbing really.
“He was just being a nuisance really. In a way we are lucky the play went to the other side and he didn't interfere with a really tense situation at that stage of the game.”
An RFL spokesman said: "The RFL are awaiting reports from the match commissioner, the referee and the ground safety officer at the KC Stadium.
"Once the RFL's compliance manager has received those reports, a decision on what course of action will be taken."
Match commissioner Ian McGregor confirmed last night that he will be including the incidents in his report, and it seems certain the RFL will launch a formal investigation.
