Hull FC to retain Martin Aspinwall despite finding him guilty of alcohol consumption
The Hull FC back row forward Martin Aspinwall will retain his job despite being found guilty of alcohol consumption by Hull Magistrates.
The player was fined £300 in court. In addition, the club charged an undisclosed amount from the back row forward.
While talking to BBC Radio, the Director of Rugby Shaun McRae said, “He accepts the fact that he's been stupid. In this instance it was considered that it was a minor occurrence.”
The player himself acknowledged that it was a minor mistake on his part and the future occurrence of that will be avoided at all costs. However, this was not the very first instance of the kind as he also served a four-month imprisonment at Liverpool Crown
Court for dangerous driving. That is not all. He also had to serve an eight-month term in suspension for a physical attack in a Wigan bar.
Hull signed Aspinwall for a year after he was released from his previous Super League franchise, Castleford Tigers. The player started his career with the Huddersfield Giants where he was switched from the wing to second row position on field.
While talking about Aspinwall’s reaction, Shaun McRae shared, “He recognises he has let himself and his team-mates down and he's been punished accordingly. There was no malice nor violence or anything like that in this and he just happened to be in the wrong
place at the wrong time.”
He added, “We have a player in Martin that doesn't just possess plenty of ability as a footballer but a character with a point to prove and someone who is keen to make the most of a fresh start.”
He further said that the Aspinwall is all set to make a fresh start at a new franchise because with his inclusion, he will add competition, along with extra depth to areas which need to strengthen. It is believed that his aggression and ferocity will also
add to the quality of players around him.
The Hull FC player is yet to make his debut with the club. However, his frequent visits to court for his unacceptable behaviour has already jeopardised his position at the club.
