Hull KR takes Tony Martin and Andy Hay on board - Rugby League News
Hull Kingston Rovers have announced the signing of Crusader’s centre, Tony Martin, to the squad. Hull has also added Andy Hay of Great Britain to their coaching crew on Friday, October 7.
Martin is the latest player to join in with a new club, after the crisis-hit Crusaders had to pull themselves out of the Super League licensing process until 2015. Crusaders stopped short their Super League journey because of a financial situation that did
not permit the club from continuing in the league.
After an exodus of players from Crusders in search of new employers began, Martin has also made a move to secure his future in top flight rugby. Martin has agreed to a one-year deal, whereas Hay has inked a three-year-deal with the franchise. This will allow
the duo to work with Lee Radford under Peter Gentle, the new head coach of the franchise.
Hay spent the last six years as assistant coach to Terry Matterson at Castleford Tigers but he stood down from his position when Matterson was replaced by Ian Millward.
While speaking about Hay’s uptake at Hulls, their director of rugby, Shaun McRae stated, "We are thrilled to have secured the services of a coach of Andy's undoubted ability and certainly someone that is held in very high regard across the game. He has all
the attributes to go on and become a top British Super League coach."
Hay is not new to the coaching role, because his last six years at Hull were spent in the same capacity. However, yesterday Radford hung up his boots and will assume a coaching role.
Martin, with his commendable experience of over 300 games, is going to be a useful addition to Hulls coaching staff. He is the seventh signing by Hulls for the upcoming Rugby League season.
While expressing his delight, Martin added that he is looking forward to his joining one of the biggest clubs in competition. He also added that he had previously played at KC Stadium and it was a whole new feeling to play there amidst the support of thousands
of fans.
