Hull KR’s skipper Michael Vella marching towards farewell match - Rugby League News
Hull Kingston Rovers’ skipper, Michael Vella, acknowledges that his team has the potential to book a spot in the Super League play-offs for the third time, if they manage to win over Castleford Tigers in tonight’s clash at Craven Park, which is the last
fixture of the regular season of Super League.
However, the winners will be away from home for the next weekend’s clash and the departing coach of Robins has full faith in his team's potential.
While speaking about his team's overlooked potential, Vella added,“I don't think many teams or coaches will be really looking over their shoulders at us but we've beaten St. Helens and Catalans in our last two matches so we believe in ourselves. We know
we can do it. I didn't get to say goodbye to the fans or have a send-off at all, which was disappointing. Now I can say goodbye to the fans and have my family with me. Running out with my children will be a massive thing for me."
According Vella, who joined Robins in 2007 and had his first Super League experience with them, holds a special place for his club. He also added what makes this place more dear to him, is the fact that all three kids of his were born here. He also shared
that to depart from club without formally thanking his fans is not his way. So on his departure from his club, he wants to bid farewell to his fans in a proper manner.
Vella’s views were all brimming with confidence over his team which he considers that none of the teams realise as a threat so far. He was of the opinion that having won the recent two wins against St. Helens and Catalans further clarifies it for his team
that anything is achievable for them.
Talking about Robin’s clash tonight, which is his last as Robins’ coach, it is all the more important because his mother, Joanne is flying in from Australia to watch the showdown live.
