Hull Kingston Rovers emerge victorious against Salford City Reds - Super League
Hull Kingston Rovers (Hulls KR) bagged a win of 21-8 over Salford City Reds, on July 17, in Craven Park. The win will be recorded as Rovers’ fourth consecutive victory in the Engage Super League.
Hulls KR started off with a very weak start which continued throughout the first half of the game as there was no contribution from their side onto the score board.
On the other hand, Salfords took off with brilliant run while scoring a try during the third minute of the game coming from Vinnie Anderson which was followed up by an additional four points on the score board by Daniel Holdsworth. The game was entirely
inclined towards the Reds during the first-half with the score sitting at 8-0 without any evidence of serious play coming from the Rovers.
After the half time the tables turned around. A try from Ben Galea along with two goals initiated by Michael Dobson evened out the scores, with further additions by Matt Cook.A drop kick was again added by Dobson, which was followed up with a try from Kris
Welham of Rovers.
Rover who sprung back to life after the half time, were swept to their fourth win, which the initial half of the game failed to exhibit. With this victory bagged Hull KR is just a point away from Hull FC on the Engage Super Rugby Table.
Commenting on their victory, Justin Morgan, the coach of Hull KR stated, “We are now just one point off the top eight and we still need to win at least a half of our remaining games. It was important for us to win and we knew our season was pretty much on
the line in terms of the league and we had some difficult things to combat.”
Acknowledging the good performance by his team he mentioned that there were a few hurdles which had to be dealt with and included combating a team with a new coach. He also added that it was an important game for both of the teams and his outfit definitely
performed well during the second-half of the game.
Morgan was of the opinion that his squad lacked on defence during the first-half which improved after the interval.
Reds were playing under their newly appointed coach, Matt Parish, but failed to gain appreciation as their performance dwindled from the strong first-half to a very unexpected end.
In his post-match reaction, Parish talked about the 21 points that were given away to Rovers during the second half of the game. He stated, "The effort was there particularly in defence but we didn't control the ball in the second half because of the wind.
We didn't take our opportunities and we should have scored another couple of tries in the first half and we bombed another one in the second.”
While sharing the reason of his coming earlier this season to evaluate the situation for the upcoming season, he also added that Rovers played well but Reds have to win future games.
