Hull Kingston Rovers name Craig Sandercock as future head coach - Rugby League
Craig Sandercock has been appointed as the latest head coach of the Hull Kingston Rovers on Monday, September 26. He will succeed Justin Morgan, on a two-year contract, with the choice of extending the deal into a third year.
Sandercock was filling in for the coaching spot with the Manly Sea Eagles, before he joined in as the assistant coach at Newcastle Knights for the last two seasons.
While speaking about his latest uptake at the Rovers, Sandercock stated, "I am really excited about coming to Hull KR and coaching in the Super League. The rich history of the club, the professional way in which it's administered, the passionate supporters
and, most importantly, the prospect of coaching a talented group of players greatly appeals to me."
It was apparent from the Rovers’ future coach’s statement that he looking forward to joining the position at the franchise, which has a huge fan following.
Mike Smith, the chief executive of Rovers and Neil Hudgell, the chairman along with Rob Crossland, the vice-chairman, all unanimously agree that the Rovers could not have gone for a better pick than this for the head coach’s position.
Speaking about the rigorous interview process, ahead of the final selection, the panel of top-tier management acknowledged that the right person for the proposed job has been sifted out after an elaborate hiring process. This way was adopted by the franchise,
because they did not wish to compromise on missing out on the best suited for the job.
It was further added by the selections panel, “He has an excellent reputation within the NRL and was highly recommended by everyone we spoke to about him. Craig has also shown during his time with Manly and Newcastle that he has a special talent for developing
young players and that was a key element for us.”
At Newcastle, Sandercock had reigned in as the assistant coach to Ricky Stone at the franchise. Stone is convinced of the potential of his former colleague and admitted that Stone has been outstanding in his skill. It was further added by him that he is
well-known for his distinguished coaching style which is well-endowed with his work ethics. The rarely found attribute of his sets him apart from the rest.
Earlier this month, Peter Gentle of West Tigers has been appointed as the head coach of Hull FC.
Super League clubs are announcing their future head coaches, but which leaves out Wigan Warriors yet to confirm their future appointment for the recently vacant position of their long time coach, Michael Maguire.
According to the news in speculation, Shaun Wane will promote to succeed Maguire, with Iestyn Harris as his assistant.
