Hull Kingston Rovers sign two-year deal with winger David Hodgson – Rugby League
English rugby league club, Hull Kingston Rovers (Hull KR), have secured the services of former Huddersfield Giants winger David Hodgson. Officials at club have confirmed the signing of the new deal with the Super League experienced winger Hodgson in a statement
released on their website on Monday, July 18.
Hull KR, also known as The Robins, have given Hodgson the option of extending his contract by one year if both parties mutually agree.
Hull born Hodgson is a versatile utility back and he has played at both winger and at fullback positions.  Hodgson started playing rugby with Halifax in the 1999/00 season. During that year, he made 14 appearances for Halifax and scored six tries.
At the start of the 2000/01 season, he joined Wigan Warriors. He remained their until the end of the 2004 season. During his stay, he played 118 games for Warriors and scored 192 points. Later, in 2005, he signed a two-year deal Salford City Reds, where
he made 87 appearances for Reds and scored 236 points.
In 2008, he joined Huddersfield Giants. He so far has made over 85 appearances for Giants and scored over 342 points. The Giants have confirmed the release of their star winger. Hodgson, renowned for scoring tries, has so far scored over 150 tries in different
Rugby League competitions.
Huddersfield Giants Managing Director, Richard Thewlis, has expressed his best wishes for the future of their star winger. He termed Hodgson’s signing as the one of best ever signing for The Robins. Thewlis has also praised the manner in which Hull KR approached
Hodgson to show their interest in acquiring his services.
The 29-year-old Hodgson has expressed his delight on the signing the new contract with Hull KR. He said, “It's where I'm from and I'm really looking forward to getting the chance to play for my hometown team.” Hodgson further added, “There’s a good base
of players at Rovers and I'm looking forward to adding to the strength of the squad.”
Hull Kingston Rovers Chief Executive, Mike Smith, has expressed his satisfaction on securing the services of the Rugby League’s star back. He has praised Hodgson’s strike rate and termed him as one of the best wingers in Super League.
Smith further added, “We're bringing to the club someone who is proven at this level, is hungry for a new challenge and is excited at the prospect of playing in front of some of the most passionate supporters in the country.”
Smith has expressed his confidence that Rovers’ fans will enjoy Hodgson’s try scoring abilities and turn out in numbers to support him and their team.
