Question:

Hull materials on hunter sailboats. Safe?

Hunter makes a nice looking sailboat. I have read some people think that the hulls are weak. Any engineers out there no if that is true?

  1. I'm an engineer and have had 2 new hunters, a 23.5 and a 310.  In both cases, the construction and materials seemed to me to be very robust and suprisingly high quality for these modestly priced boats.  There were a few instances of reports on the net of poor quality in some of the trailerable boats, built by a subcontractor a few years ago,  but evidently Hunter made good on these problems.   The boats I've seen and have owned (over 3,000 miles on the 310),  are solid and well built.

  2. I've sailed a lot of Huner 33's and never had a moment's worry... but there ARE some plastic fantastics out there... Hunter just doesn't happen to be one of them.
