Hulya Esen outshines Anastasia Vdovenco to reach round two – Antalya ITF 2012
Local challenger, Hulya Esen, overpowered the Moldovan wild card recipient, Anastasia Vdovenco, in straight sets at the Antalya ITF 2012 on Tuesday. She nudged up a 7-5, 6-2 success against the 18-year-old to charge into the second round at this outdoor
clay court tournament taking place in Antalya, Turkey.
The Istanbul native showed brilliant skills to overpower Vdovenco in their first duel against each other. She required almost an hour and 15 minutes securing a place in the round of 16 at this ITF (International Tennis Federation) Women’s Circuit event taking
place from 10th to 16th December.
Esen made a comfortable entry at the Go Tennis Academy. She made a sloppy start and suffered the first blow in the opening game. The Turk recovered in the very next game but lost her serve again and eventually fell at 1-3. However, she remained calm and
not only snatched her break back in the sixth game but got the breakthrough near the end, subsequently clicking the opener with a 7-5 win.
Ranked 658th in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Rankings, Esen raised the bar of her game in the following set. After Vdovenco held her serve in the fourth game, the Turk went on a four-game tear and eventually clinched the set with
a 6-2 score line.
All in all, the 23-year-old prevailed throughout the tournament. She brushed off two out of four breakpoints she came across and capitalised on five out of seven break chances to achieve her goal. The Turk spilled fewer unforced errors and hammered more
winners.
Up next for Esen is the French contestant, Irina Ramialison, who stunned fourth seeded Yuliya Kalabina with a breadstick to set up this meeting. She barely sweated in the second set before clobbering a 6-4, 6-1 success.
The eighth seed, Daria Mironova, also earned the fame later that day. She tumbled the Slovenian contestant, Tjasa Srimpf, with a bagel to progress. The seeded Russian wiped out the opening nine games before Srimpf could come on the score sheet. Mironova
eventually formulated a 6-0, 6-1 score line in less than an hour.
