Human/Animal Genes?

Question

Does anybody have any information about or know any websites that tell you the percentage of DNA that we share with various animals/plants/whatever?

I read about how we share something like 60% of our DNA with bananas and was wondering about our similarities with other living things.

Though I've heard that there are slightly different opinions on how, exactly, one calculates percentages in similarity.  Then again that probably goes for comparing any sorts of things.

with other humans we share about 99.9% of our genes.. All the different sizes, colours and types of people in the world are defined by that 0.1% of different genes!

With the chimp/gorillas we share about 98% of same genes.

It goes down from there but as you point out , even with vegetables we share a majority of genes.

We aint so different after all.

The answer to your question would require several million comparisons as, although there are differences, all organisms have some DNA in common.  The most advanced organism on earth, humans, have DNA in common with the most simple organism on earth, bacteria.

This evidence, DNA similarity, is also one of the greatest evidences for evolution as organisms get their DNA from their ancestors and, for all organisms to have some DNA that is identical they must have a common ancestor.
