So im doing this in the army. Is there anyone out there now who does it and likes it. How does your day go. Iv talked to a few people who do it and one girl told me it's the best job. Because my eyes suck i could only do this job and like a few others and this seemed the best for me. i actually wanted to go full infranty but cant. I do like jobs where you sit down so this seems like a good 9 to 5 job. What do u guys think?

  1. Well for one there's no real 9 to 5 job in the Army. You might be working from 6 to to 6 in S-1 as a 42A doing paperwork and as a JAG person now, sitting down can suck the life out of you year after year especially if you wanted to be infantry. You will be called a 'pogue' and a 'REMF' too and unless you go to a high-speed unit like the 75th Ranger Regiment or a SF Group or an airborne infantry Bde or a light infantry unit where you can get some good military schools like the grunts while you complete some civilian education on the side. Going to a 'leg', non-airborne unit will .....well you'll see. Nobody sings cadence about them for a reason lol.

Anyway, the MOS itself is decent and neccesary. I picked it as one of my choices when I medical reclassed from the infantry after 16 years. I went paralegal (27D) instead. We work hand in hand.

Good luck and thank you for serving.

  2. 42As sit in the 1 shop, (what the Army calls "personnel") you can do it at many levels, Battalion, Brigade, Division, and so forth.  It is pretty much doing all the paperwork for Soldiers that is required for them and the unit to function.  For example, processing leave forms, updating Army records, processing awards and evaluations.  Mail usually goes through the S1 too.
