  1. >>> Herzberg's two factor theory

Keep your employees happy to see their productivity increasing. I would set it up, If i am convinced that it will have some perpetual use otherwise i would help her make other alternative arrangements

  2. Well, human resources this or that way, anybody will agree that the management of the company has one and only one responsibility to the owners: To maximise the profit.

That also means that they need to minimise the costs, also the cost of their workers.

The old-fashioned economics would say: No way, Jose! Childcare costs money, you already got your salary so pay for it elsewhere or leave the company. There are hundreds like you on the street, eager to get your job.

The results of it may be different: Maybe the company will lose this particular employee, maybe she will keep her job but go on sick leave more often, maybe she will feel bad or stressed about it and really get a chronic health condition that will affect her productivity, or will she just feel less loyal to the company, not willing to give that extra something that makes her excellent.

In classical industry it worked well. The employer didn't need the employees' devotion, creativity or skill. He was just buying their time and it was his responsibility to make good use of it and to keep it as cheap as possible. But times have changed since then.

Suddenly, the employees are more and more responsible for their productivity. As jobs become more and more complicated, requiring higher skills, it is less easy to measure productivity by direct methods and more and more  factors enter the equation.

The goal of Human resource management is to analyse them and to find a mixture that will ensure greatest possible productivity. So, if the analysis showsthat opening a childcare center in the company will decrease sick leaves, increase numbers of extra hours empoyees are ready to work, increase the rate of innovaition because non-worried employees who know their children are well provided for can think better, and create a warmer climate that in general affects the economic result positively, well then the decision might be that opening a childcare center is a wise decision.
