all the time lines i have researched all distinguish the Neanderthal as being the descendant of modern man.....

however i know this to be incorrect....... cro magnon man was the modern mans direct descendant.....i need a time line or information which involves the ancestry of cro magnon....his ancestry, origin and evolution path...

im from australia.....our final year biology is on human evolution.....all the texts and teachers say we're from Neanderthal....

i need something which has cro magnon clearly stated.....not just about him but rather how he came to be and how he became us....

  1. Neanderthals (99.9% genetical identical to us) descended from Homo heidelbergensis in Europe, circa 325,000 years ago, and disappeared about 24,000 years ago...

Early Modern Humans (Caucasoid, Cro-Magnon, 100% genetically identical to us), entered Europe from the vicinity of the Black Sea region appx. 40,000+/- years ago, and disappeared from Europe by the end of the last Ice Age, 10,000 years ago...

  3. Not many years ago, some anthropologists theorized that Neanderthals were simply a subspecies of homo sapiens and distinguished them from modern humans by calling them homo sapiens neanderthalensis and modern humans homo sapiens sapiens.  More recently, however, DNA testing has indicated that Neanderthal man was not closely enough related to modern man to have been our ancestor.  Although Neanderthals were not the knuckle-dragging creatures of cartoons, they were evidently simply a different species of the genus homo.  (Still, there's that transitional-seeming skeleton found in a cave on Mt. Carmel--neither quite Neanderthal nor quite modern.  You might google "Mount Carmel man.")  Cro-Magnon people seem to have been the world's first artists.  The cave paintings  of Lascaux seem to have been done by them.

Too much "seems"?  These links may help:  http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/homs/cro...

Another source woth looking at is The Journey of Man, by Spencer Wells.  According to this book, the first modern humans to leave Africa and branch off from the original family tree were the indigenous people of Australia

  4. You are right,Neanderthals did not evolve into modern humans as some believe, and genetic research has showed that they also did not contribute to those living now so they had No contribution to the way we are.

Neandethals were the last hominid to die out, leaving humans as the only hominid (that we know of) to still exist. Mind you that there is some evidence indicating that "bigfoot" may actually be a bipedal ape, and large apes have evoided detection for a long time ie. Gorillas were thought to be a myth as well. As to wether you believe in bigfoot, I dont know and I for one am unsure about it. But I recognise its possibility. You can use these sites to learn a little more about the genetic differences in Modern Humans and Neanderthals.
