  2. maybe you should focus on the specific areas the cane toad is worst in. i took a trip to australia, and i saw cane toads and heard about the problem. the thing is i dont remember exactly where i was. it was either sydney or someplace near caans in a rainforest type area

  3. The Cane Toad was introduced near Cairns, Queensland. Unfortunately, the cane beetle lived high up on the sugar cane, and was nocturnally active, the cane toad was active during the day, and couldn't jump high enough to catch the beetle anyway. The cane toad was not stupid, when it could not find any cane beetles to eat, it just ate whatever it wanted that would fit into its mouth, including native insects, birds, mice, etc etc. It is a large toad, without enough predators to control it. The crow is smart enough to turn it over and eat its soft, non-poisonous underbelly, as do some species of turtle, but there are not enough of them to do any damage on the toad population. They are now spreading across most of Qld, Norther Territory, and down to New South Wales. If you search for cane toad Queensland and Cairns, I'm sure you will turn up a few references. Here are a few stories of cane toads from the Cairns local paper to give you some background.

  4. Cane toads were introduced to stop the native Cane Beetle attacking sugar cane.

One of the worst environmental decisions the government has made as the cane toad has very few predators, and whatever will try to eat it, will be poisoned.
