Humana Challenge Celebrity Pro-Am: Bill Clinton walks off the course without completing round
Former US President Bill Clinton walked off the La Quinta Country Club, California, without completing his round with Australian golfing legend, Greg Norman, due to strong winds at the Humana Challenge Celebrity Pro-Am, on Saturday.
The whole event was disrupted due to a sudden change in the weather on the course. Therefore, the tournament officials decided to end the Pro-Am finish early, to give the professionals a chance to finish their round early, on Sunday morning.
However, Clinton, along with his friend Norman, managed to play nine holes on the course prior to the interruption. Both of them teed off for their 10th holes when the wind started to blow.
Although the spectators were not able to see Clinton completing his round, the former US President played really well on the first nine holes and displayed a good performance for the crowd to remember.
When Clinton entered the course, one of the spectators made a loud remark about his golf shoes.
Clinton responded in a funny little laugh, saying that they were the best part of his game. He also said that his game is yet to be seen by the spectators.
The spectators were enjoying Clinton’s behaviour and how he responded to the crowd with a pleasant mood.
There was no such thing as personal for Clinton in the event. He was there just to enjoy the event and he did.
When the game was suspended, Mark Wilson was leading the Pros event with a three-stroke margin, as his overall score was 21-under par.
He also appreciated the idea of suspending the play, as it was really dangerous out there to continue the match.
"I think they made the right call," Wilson said. "You don't want to see anybody get hurt".
The winds were already forecast on the course, on Saturday. However, the intensity with which they came was totally unexpected and there was no chance to resume the game.
"It's amazing how it happened so quickly," said Wilson, who was 5-under through 15 holes. "I went from the mentality of making birdies to just making solid pars when I could".
Apart from the entire disturbance on the course, Clinton enjoyed the whole day and spent his time with his fans, while signing autographs for them.
