Humana Challenge: Ryan Moore sets course record at La Quinta, California with 11-under par 61 - Golf News
Ryan Moore recorded one of the best rounds in the history of golf on the second day of the Humana Challenge by firing 11 birdies and an eagle against two bogeys at the La Quinta, California.
Moore, who finished on equal par 72 in the opening round of the tournament, did not have a good start on the second day on the course. He bogeyed the second and third holes and carded an overall score of two-over par.
However, who could have thought of his huge return in the game with an eagle on the fourth, which was followed by 11 birdies on the next 12 holes that he played.
"Really the last thing I remember was being 2 over through three, and then I just walked off the 18th hole," Moore said. "Maybe that just freed me up. I just let go. ... I don't know if I ever putted that good in my entire life".
With this performance, he tied the course record of 11-under par 61, which he could have been better if he had avoided the initial bogeys.
Moreover, he surged to tie for the 14th position from the 124th on the leaderboard to challenge the leaders with only a five-stroke deficit left.
Mark Wilson shot the second best round on the second day, with a 10-under par 62 to share the lead with Ben Crane (63) and David Toms (65) with an overall score of 16-under par 128. It was Wilson’s career’s best score.
Overall, it was a low scoring day because of good weather conditions on the course. It seemed as if the game was being played indoors as there was no wind on the course.
Every player was playing their game without any fear of the ball moving to other directions because of the wind.
"Everything has been much improved, and we got a much better field because of it," said Crane, who had just 48 putts in his first two rounds. "This is a great place for players to start their year, because it's like playing indoors".
Moreover, the La Quinta is already known for easy holes and the tournament has a history of low scores.
Therefore, Moore has now the chance to outshine the leaders if he keeps on performing the same way, as he did in the second round.
