Question:

Humane Euthanasia For Hamster

by  |  earlier

I have a very sick hamster, it's suffering terribly. My vet wants to charge more than $200 to put it down - which I cannot pay. Does anyone know of a humane method to put it down, that does not include decapitation or similar methods? Are there any inhalants or anything like that I can use?

  1. take it to the local spca they euthanize small animals for a 5 dollar donation.

  2. Take it to your ASPCA. They'll understand, they'll euthanize it for a five dollar donation.

  3. I'm sorry I have no ideal. But I do have a suggestion.

Just let it be. Stay with it.Accompany it until the end of its life. That's so bad to kill a little animals.

The problem here with "letting it be" is that:

    1. It's suffering terribly.

    2. My son comes home tomorrow after being away for quite some time - I don't want him to see his pet in this condition.

    1. I had a hamster.Last month he was suffering from cancer.I was so sad and took it to the vet.The vet said it was suffering terribly, and she suggested me to pay about 120HKD to do sth. like humane euthanasia ,same as your hamster. I love it so much and I didn't want to gone too fast. So I rejected the suggestion. I kept petting it after school, before bed,let it felt safe. One day,it couldn't breath coz it was on the edge of death.I put it on my hand and petting it.It left the world after 30 mins.I'm strongly against to take it to ASPCA.I think you should accompany it until the end of its life.Be a responsible owner.

    2. Seriously, that's good to let him know the value of life.

  4. Just crushing it with a sledge hammer will honestly be a lot more humane and painless than trying to poison or gas it yourself.
