Humanoid Apparitions, A White Specter?

Question

What type of apparitions appear white, humanoid, and are found in the countryside, possibly near bridges and/or water? I know of someone close to me that has experienced a whit humanoid figure whilst driving on a road in Upstate New York, the figure has even passed through the car on one occasion. The fact that it appears around the same place, always at night, and from what I've heard does the same thing, suggests to me that it may be a residual haunting, but what do you all think it could be?

I could understand about "residual energy" if the person who got ..say killed in a wreck...was seen laying there at the place they were killed. But,how could they get up and walk through a car if they weren't a ghost.? Maybe I don't understand about residual energy. Guess I'll have to Google it.

It sounds to me like this is a residual haunting.

It is believed that a residual haunting occurs when an entity visits the same place and performs a repetitive act.  The entity is not cognizant of any living persons who are present within the area and often times is not aware of its surroundings as we see it today.  These types of hauntings typically occur after a tragic event and the repetitive acts display a portion of the event as it happened.  There are times, however, that the residual act is of a mundane act the individual repeated often in life.  Generally these types of entities are not considered an actual ghost, but an imprint of energy left at the location due to the tragic event.

Was it near the Tapan Zee bridge? It could have been the headless horseman. Rumor has it he is still roaming sleepy hollow, dont let the modern construction fool you.

Actually, this sounds like a classic case of road ghosts. Ive seen them many times all over new england and new york. You see them when driving late at night when the road is empty. Quite a few times ive been in upstate new york driving down the highway at 2 am and stopped dead thinking there was someone standing in the road.

I am pretty sure road ghosts are illusions, related to mental fatique of driving and being a little tired doesnt help. That plus, having a completely open highway has a weird effect.
