Humberto Soto collides with Argentinean Lucas Martin Matthysse in a 12-round bout – Boxing News
Humberto Soto, the former WBC lightweight champion, will enter the ring to grab yet another title by taking on the Argentinean proud Lucas Martin Matthysse, the former WBO Intercontinental light welterweight champion, in a 12-round bout with vacant WBC Continental
Americas light welterweight title up for grabs.
The duo will co-headline the pay-per-view organised and promoted by Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions and the ring for the showdown will be set up at Staples Center situated in Los Angeles, California, United States.
The Saturday night extravaganza will be headlined by the 12-round welterweight bout between Victor Ortiz and Josesito Lopez who will collide with each other for the vacant WBC silver welterweight gold.
The show will be televised live on June 23, 2012 on Showtime’s weekly Saturday night boxing show. The Californian boxing fans will also witness Chris Arreola take on Mike Mollo in a non-title 10-round bout.
Soto and Lucas recently met at the pre-bout press conference and put forth their resolve on throwing an impressive showdown in front of the Los Angeles boxing fans. Humberto, 32, is a veteran who has been in a huge 68 bouts. The Mexican proud has nailed
58 opponents and 34 of them via knockout.
Soto is currently on a 15-bout win streak since his last loss to Francisco Lorenzo and is therefore eyeballing an apex divisional title. The odds are definitely in favour of Soto who possesses a hefty experience in a very decent age and will not get fatigued
early during the bout against the 29-year-old Lucas.
Matthysse has been in a total 33 bouts and boasts 30 wins. The Argentinean proud has pinned a huge 28 of his opponents by knockout and is known as a very lethal knockout pounder who can stun even the toughest chins of the division.
During the media interaction, Soto realised the power and talent of Lucas and stated, “There is no doubt Lucas is a strong opponent and a strong fighter. He comes forward and always looks for a fight. The difference in this fight is the experience. I have
a lot of experience, and that’s what’s going to lead me to victory. Matthysse is a good fighter. He’s going to stay in there and he’s a smart fighter. We’re going to go toe-to-toe.”
If Soto uses his experience in the most optimal manner there will be no hindrance for the Mexican proud to add yet another title round his waist. However, Lucas does have a slight advantage in his gear as well.
If Martin uses his height and reach advantage appropriately he will be able to throw and connect jabs from a considerable distance while keeping himself safe hence collecting much needed points in order to grab a decision win.
The clash will be a brutal one and the duo will pummel each other with sheer force and power. Soto just needs to evade Lucas’ knockout jabs and Martin needs to connect as many shots from distance as possible.
