Humidity levels to high in bearded dragon cage?

My humidity levels in the bearded dragon cage are to high.

His basking spot is a temperature of around 100, and the cooler side ranges around 77 - 80 degrees.

Where should i positon the humidity gauge in the tank, it is showing readings of 60-70.

I only have a very small water bowl in there, and i have stopped misting in the tank to try and lower it, but this does not seem to make any difference.

Am i doing something wrong.

  1. In my experience Beardies do not need misting as they are desert lizards.

I have a small water bowl in my set up with the basking area in the 90's and the cool end in the 80's. I researched loads before I got my Beardies and nobody mentioned humidity or misting to me.

I wouldn't worry too much about the humidity levels if your Beardies are happy. Just let them get on with it. As long as they are getting there calcium and vitimin suppliments then they should be fine. You can always bathe them in shallow tepid water once every couple of weeks as a substitute for misting.

I must say that I don't have a wealth of experience and am certainly no expert but this is to the best of my knowledge. Everyone does things slightly differently with things like keeping Beardies so some people may offer different advice.

    Hope this helps.

  2. You might have to,depending in where you live, need a dehumidifier. I am from Florida, so I have a dry room for all my desert snakes and lizards and I have a dehumidifier set up. If your beardie is just in a room in the house, it isn't a big deal, your house will just be less humid.

Change the substrate, and see if that helps, if not, you might want to get one.

  3. Have you changed the substrate since misting? there may be excess moisture from that give your tank a full clean out and try keeping the water on the cool side of the tank not on the warm to avoid any evaporation from the bowl

  4. i would say go for a lower wattage in the basking bulb
