The Borussia Dortmund defender has expressed his delight on winning the recent league clash against Borussia Monchengladbach at home.
Borussia Dortmund returned back to winning ways with a 5-0 thumping of Borussia Monchengladbach at the Signal Iduna Park in the Bundesliga. The side had accumulated only one point in the previous two games against the likes of
Hamburg SV and Eintracht Frankfurt, and were criticised for their poor form in recent weeks.
Hummels claimed that the win against Gladbach was very important as the team desperately needed to return to winning ways to remain in contention for the league title. Bayern Munich are still leading the standings table with six
wins from the six games played.
The German international stressed that his side did not deserve to lose the game against Hamburg and should have easily won the fixture against Frankfurt. The player does not want to lose more ground on the leaders and is confident
of an impressive display in the future.
“It was vitally important that we won and that we kept a clean sheet - and that we shook off a few insecurities. We really should never have lost the game in Hamburg, and we shouldn't have let Frankfurt hit back at us on the counter
attack. That is why the points in Gladbach now are so important because we simply could not lose any more ground in the league,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
Hummels stated that Dortmund were much more organised in the game against Monchengladbach and admitted that his side has the potential to go all the way again this season.
“We were better organised. We all know that we have a lot of quality with the lads up front, and they came good for us once again,” he concluded.
Borussia Dortmund will next take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Hannover-96-c39492 at the AWD Arena in the league on Sunday, October 7, in a bid to remain in pursuit for the top spot. The side also has a crucial fixture in the UEFA Champions League against Manchester
City later this week at the Etihad Stadium.
