Prior to last night’s semi-final with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753, and picked up maximum points
from their three fixtures.
In the quarter-finals they faced a below par Greek side, and defeated them convincingly. Despite booking their place in the last four, there were slight concerns about the German back four. Although the centre-backs impressed throughout
the tournament but, they lacked the much needed international experience.
In Badstuber and Hummels, the DFB eleven have two talented but relatively inexperienced defenders, the youngsters have a total of 44 caps under their belts.
In the wake of his side’s loss to Italy, the Borussia Dortmund centre-back was critical of his performance. The 23-year old was turned by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mario-Balotelli-c23937 who netted Azzurri’s opener. He admits
that he should have done better against the AC Milan forward and insists that he is to blame for the first goal
"For the cross for the first goal I didn’t do well enough. That the cross even went in was my fault so I played a big part in the first goal,” he is quoted as saying in an interview.
It was not just Hummels’ fault, he claimed the team just did not click, and found themselves two goals down before the break. He concedes it was difficult to come back after shipping two goals early on in the first half.
"We screwed up in the first half.  Two-nil down against a team who are so tactically good is difficult," the Borussia Dortmund defender added.
The 23-year old was not the only one who was at fault; the Nationalelf’s exit from the semi-final was the product of a few poor performances. The DFB eleven’s midfielders were unable to stop the pass master Pirlo, who dictated
the tempo of the game. The Italian players in the middle of the park looked sounder technically.
Joachim Low’s men were caught napping on many occasions by pinpoint diagonal balls. The score could have been much worse, had the Italians taken their chances.
