The Borussia Dortmund defender has committed his future to the club and will remain at the Signal Iduna Park until 2017.
Mats Hummels has signed a three-year extension to his current contract at the Signal Iduna Park. The player committed his future to the German champions and will remain at the club until the summer of 2017.
The defender’s future was under widespread speculation for the past few months with the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich reportedly showing interest to acquire his services. However, Dortmund have made it clear that
the player is going nowhere by offering him a new deal to stay.
Hummels expressed his delight on extending his stay at the club and admitted that he never had second thoughts. The German insisted that he had no intentions of leaving the team as it had been reported in the press and is happy
to remain with the Bundesliga winners.
The centre-back is confident that the team will continue to win trophies and is satisfied with the side’s future plans. The Borussians have been active in the transfer window this season and have already acquired http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Reus-c23733 from
Borussia Monchengladbach for the upcoming campaign.
“As soon as the club approached me and asked if I would like to extend, I knew immediately that I want to continue being part of this team, which is so successful and is so much fun to be in,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke hailed the player’s commitment and faith in the club. He added that the player is a vital part of the squad and praised the German international’s leadership skills.
“Mats is a true leader and for him to commit his future to Dortmund for such a long period of time is a clear show of faith in our philosophy,” he concluded.
