it is very hard to catch Der FCB at the top of the table.
The reigning German champions won the Bundesliga for the last two campaigns, but are currently 15 points behind fierce rivals’ Die Roten this season. Nevertheless, they are still in contention for the German Cup and the UEFA Champions
League, and the central defender is looking forward to claim a trophy this year as well.
The young starlet claimed that second-placed Bayer 04 Leverkusen are in great run of form and deserve the position they are in the league. As a result, the BVB have shifted priority elsewhere, with a Cup win very crucial now. Dortmund
have been in amazing form in the Champions League.
"Leverkusen have shown stable performances and certainly deserve second place," the 24-year-old was quoted as saying in an interview.
"Second place and winning the cup [would now be a perfect end to the season for us]," the young prodigy added.
The DFB-Champions have improved their status in Europe and are feared by even top European clubs. Therefore, the defender believes that players can turn into stars at Signal Iduna Park.
"If you are daring enough, then you can," the former Bayern Munich youth academy player continued.
"But I do not know if this is a desirable goal. The point is to be successful - and to have fun. Whether I'm famous in every country in the world or not makes no difference to me," the star player finally concluded.
Hummels stated that playing in Germany is very challenging, and if you want to be brave and ply your trade here, then of course you can make a name for yourself there. Dortmund next play Leverkusen at the Bay Arena on Sunday.
