The young prodigy played 33 times in the season last year as he helped secure his side a second straight league title, and then represented Germany as they reached the semi-finals of Euro 2012. Therefore, he had a long season with
no break and is now struggling to keep up with the physical aspect of the game.
The stopper claimed that after the summer tournament, he could not rest properly due to a short vacation. He said he lost interest in football due to the depression from fixture congestion.
"After Euro 2012, I had very little holiday and almost no desire to play football. I was slipping into depression, from all the travelling,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.

The 23-year-old said that the defending champions are facing difficulties but insisted that it is nothing new, as the problems are part of football. He maintained that they won their titles after a lot of hardships.

However, Hummels thinks he is improving following Dortmund’s 5-0 hammering of Borussia Monchengladbach over the weekend. He said it is vital that they win their remaining fixtures in order to catch Bayern Munich.
