  1. Use 1 cup of sugar and 1 gal of water.  Heat and stir til the sugar is all desolved.  Let it cool before you put it out for the hummingbirds.  You can add a few drops of red color if you like.  I prefer making this to the store bought kind, it seems the birds like it better too...

Sorry, the sugar to water ratio was way to high in the answer above me..

  2. I use 50/50 on mine.  Water and sugar.  I also add red food coloring.  I know they say you can go without, as long as the feeder is red, but I don't seem to get as many that way.

If you use really hot water, the sugar will dissolve without any problems.

Remember, at the end of Labor Day weekend, take it down until Memorial Day next year.  The hummingbirds will not migrate to warmer weather if it's still left out.

    Hope that helps!

  3. It's really pretty simple....Sugar water and red food coloring.

Use 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. I like to add a little extra sugar myself for the little guys. Because Humming birds do not have a sense of smell and rely on there eye sight to find food, the red food coloring is important to attract the humming birds. If your humming bird feeder is already red, you don't need to add the food coloring.

       Good luck.

  4. Come on people...this is a simple question...it IS 1 part (cup) sugar to 4 parts(cups) water...a few people gave the correct answer..but not sure where the others got such information.  No need to add red food coloring..the color on the feeder is enough to attract them.

  5. use 4 parts water to 1 part sugar. since your birds already know your feeder you don't need red coloring which isn't good for them anyway. i don't boil the water but i have well water with no additives. if you have city water boil it first, also boil it if they don't drink it up in one day.

  6. When creating a sugar solution for your feeder, the best ratio is 1 part white, granulated sugar to 4 parts water, since this closely approximates the concentrations found in the nectar of wildflowers they prefer.

So depending on how big your feeder is, 1:4 is your ratio.

  7. 1 cup of sugar 2 cups of water
