Hundreds will come for Watson: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 – Cricket News Update
Expressing his faith in the star all-rounder, Australia skipper Michael Clarke has backed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s ongoing second Test match
against Sri Lanka, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, today on December 27.
Watson last struck a Test century in October 2010 – a 126 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 (95) in Perth, and then in November 2011 against
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in Johannesburg (88), but has so far failed to reach triple figures in Tests since 2010.
His 83 on day two of the Melbourne Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Samaraweera-c2712 at deep square leg while attempting to play a pull shot off a delivery from Dhammika Prasad. However, his captain did not
see this as a cause for concern.
“Watto doesn't need to change anything, he's batted really well today,” Clarke said while speaking to
Grandstand. “He was unlucky today, the pull shot's one of his strengths and unfortunately he's hit it straight down the guy's throat.
“Nine times out of 10, Watto hits that for four or six,” the skipper added. “Full credit to him, I thought he played really well and if he keeps batting like that, hundreds will come.”
Prior to his dismissal, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 (106), which lasted throughout the earlier part of day two. In sharp contrast to Watson, Clarke’s recent Test performances have been replete with hundreds, and his century
against Sri Lanka was his fifth this year, enabling him to break http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricardo-Gouveia-c84824 Ponting’s record for most Test runs in a calendar year.
Following the dismissals of Clarke and Watson, things looked a little shaky for Australia, but the hosts found unexpected salvation lower down the order, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MG-Johnson-c1945 struck an as yet unbeaten 73, to get Australia up to 440 for 8 by stumps on day
two.
“I thought the boys played really well today,” Clarke said. “Watson was outstanding, Mitchell Johnson was really good at the back end of the day.”
