Hung Li, Wen Hsing trounce Jiaming Tao, Huan Xia in Badminton Asia Championships pre quarter-finals
Badminton Asia Championships got its first Mixed Doubles quarter-finalist when Chen Hung Ling-Cheng Wen Hsing outclassed Jiaming Tao-Huan Xia in second round match on April 19, 2012.
This pre quarter-final tussle was a real test of their mental and physical strength as it lasted for one hour and 17 minutes. Both teams made the spectators gasp by exhibiting their prime badminton skills in three sets.
They sweat hard to avoid being beat but Taipei couple swept the board with final figures of 13-21, 23-21 and 27-25.
World Number five pair Hung Ling-Wen Hsing looked out of touch in the opening set as their relatively low ranked rivals dazzled them with lustrous performance.
Mixed Doubles experts Jiaming Tao and Huan Xia matched their competitor’s skills and bagged the first match point.
In first half of opening set, both teams remained toe-to-toe until 7-7 score position but the Chinese pair lifted up their speed with couple of strong rallies.
Their rivals Hung Ling-Wen Hsing were harmless and armless against their intensive invasion and surrendered after reading 13-21 score on the board.
However, the story was different in second chapter of this epic saga. The second set turned a nerve-racking tussle as both teams did not permit each other to get into a commanding position until game point situation.
At one point, the underrated Chinese couple was in a strong position to turn its 1-0 lead into straight-set victory when they placed a decent margin 13-8 on scoreboard but the Taipei shuttlers woke up in time and stop their rivals’ expedition with some powerful
rallies.
There were three times when Hung Ling and Wen Hsing reached at game point but their opponents came in their way however they managed to reach at final score position 23-21 in the end.
The decider turned consequential with 1-1 match score position. Both teams stretched hard to avoid a woeful exit and stayed close to each other throughout the third set.
They were locked at 11-11 until mid-game break then Chinese dominated for a short period of time but their rival caught them at 18-18 score position.
The spectators stayed glued to their chairs as both teams had to play seven game points but finally Taipei shuttlers Hung Ling and Wen Hsing sealed the victory with a tight yet decisive score of 27-25.
