Hungarian Grand Prix: Friday Morning Practice Session
Friday morning’s opening practice session began with the usual excitement as the Formula One caravan gets ready to unveil the twelfth race of the season with the Hungarian Grand Prix 2010. Red Bull drivers’ Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber were outrageous and ready to blow off everybody who came in their way. Their cars seemed to be flying at the track as the RB6 stamped its authority by making the fastest lap of the day. Sebastian Vettel lapped the fastest time with 1 minute 20.976 seconds followed by Mark Webber in 1 minute and 21.106 seconds.
The strongest contender who stood against the Red Bull Racing drivers was Robert Kubica of Renault who wheeled around in 1minute and 22.072 seconds. McLaren, who accepted a while before the race that Ferrari had a much better car then Red Bull, were to hold the forth place as Jenson Button was quick to end with 1 minute and 22.444 seconds. Rubens Barrichello of Williams, who had completed his 300th Grand Prix in Germany, did a great job as he was able to pull his far less competent car to the end at the fifth place in 1 minute and 22.601seconds.
The BMW Sauber driver Pedro de la Rosa was also quicker than the Ferrari drivers as he ended at the sixth position with 1 minute and 22.764 seconds followed by Fernando Alonso in his Ferrari at the seventh place with 1minute and 22.772 seconds.
Team Mercedes, much disappointed from their performance in Germany last week, was able to secure the eighth and ninth places as Nico Rosberg ended in 1minute 22.777seconds followed by Michael Schumacher who drove his fastest lap in 1 minute and 22.792 seconds.
Rookie Williams’ driver Nico Hulkenberg also had a good morning session as he was able to stand ahead of many older drivers at the tenth place, marking his best lap in 1minute and 22.966 seconds. His trail was followed by Adrian Sutil, who was also having the final on-track testing of the blown diffuser of his Force India car VJM03. He lapped the circuit in 1minute and 23.003 seconds. The other Force India car, which was driven by Paul di Resta, was not able to get the new component in his car for the weekend, owing to its unavailability. However, he was able to end at the fifteenth place in 1 minute and 23.520 seconds.
Felipe Massa, who drove at the track where he had the worst crash of his life only last year, was able to end at the twelfth slot in the second Ferrari with a time of 1 minute and 23.007 seconds. He was followed by Vitaly Petrov, who had a bad spin on the track with his Renault, as he reached at the last corner. However, he was quick enough to prevent the car from bumping into the pit wall. Petrov ended the race at the thirteenth place in 1minute and 23.249 seconds.
Kamui Kobayashi followed his tail with 1minute and 23.327 seconds for the second BMW Sauber car. Both the Toro Rosso drivers, Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari, ended close to each other for the sixteenth and seventeenth places with lap times of 1 minute and 23.780 seconds and 1 minute and 23.868 seconds respectively.
The current chart topper Lewis Hamilton had a bad morning as he hardly ended at the eighteenth place with a lap time of 1 minute 24.075 seconds for McLaren. He was chased by the two Lotus racers Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen in 1 minute 25.032 seconds and 1 minute and 25.210 seconds followed by Virgin driver’s Timo Glock and Lucas di Grassi, lapping their distances in 1 minute 25.990 seconds and 1minute 26.686 seconds respectively.
Bruno Senna and Sakon Yamamoto closed the day’s competition for HRT with a time of 1 minute 26.990 seconds and 1 minute and 28.157seconds successively. The day went safe and secure for everyone apart from two minor incidents which included Petrov’s spin and the other was Sutil’s rotation at turn two.
