Hungarian International Championships: Carola Bott, Stasa Poznanovic claim Women’s Doubles title
Women’s Doubles experts Carola Bott and Stasa Poznanovic continued with their top form and remained invincible in the final round of the 37th Yonex Hungarian International Championships on November 4, 2012.
They outclassed Julie Finne Ipsen-Rikke S. Hansen by registering a favourable result of 21-17 and 23-21 in a 34-minute tussle.
This title match was staged at the local badminton arena of Budaors, Hungary and both contenders kept the audience glued to their chairs until last shot was played.
Though, the Danish campaigners were having better odds but they could not live up to the billing and crashed out after receiving a 2-0 defeat.
On the other hand, Carola and Stasa showed elevated craft and locked the honour in a splendid manner.
They established an early advantage and maintained that upper hand all the way to the final moments.
In the opening game, they mounted pressure by gathering few consecutive points straight away in the beginning and kept their challengers grounded until half time.
Carola and Stasa, who belong to Germany and Croatia respectively, employed unusual tactics as many times they pushed the opposing team on the back-foot with power packed smashes and then earned valuable points with deceiving drop net shots.
They maintained that rhythm even after the one-minute interval and served notice of their supremacy by finishing the first set with a distinctive lead.
Though, Julie and Rikke made every effort to save the honour but they could not hit the mark until decisive figure of 17-21.
The following game, which proved a decider later, kept swinging between both teams as neither of them could make a significant difference all the way to game point situation.
Initially, the twosome of Carola and Stasa launched a brisk attack and got into commanding position but then couple of unforced errors brought them down.
The Danish players did not squander this opportunity and counter-balanced the situation with a strong reply.
Julie and Rikke ruled the court in most part of the game but they lost focus when it was needed the most. They dropped a few vital points and allowed Carola-Stasa to seal a straight-set victory with 23-21 margin.
