Question:

Hungarian family?

I cannot find any information on my Hungarian family. I've tried almost every website like Ancestry, Rootsweb, some church ones and i still can't find anything. My dad was the first one to come to the U.S. out of his family, and he never met his grandparents on his mothers side and only remembers the names of his dad's parents. He still keeps in contact with his sister and all of his new family there and they don't know anything either. What should I do? Does anyone know any websites that i might find something on?

  1. The LDS was only allowed to copy records prior to 1895 in Hungary. You sound like you need records after that date to connect what you know about your family. You have the advantage most of us don't have -- relatives still living in the country of origin. See if any of your cousins in Hungary are interested in genealogy, too. They can go to the county archives and look up the records you need.

  2. If you know the area (town/city) in Hungary why not see if there's a Family History Society there. However, it's really difficult tracing back in Communist block countries pre WW2 for obvious reasons!!!
