Hungaroring president Zsolt Gyulay seeking funds to resurface track for 2012 Hungarian Grand Prix
Hungaroring president Zsolt Gyulay is looking for funds to resurface the Budapest racetrack for the 2012 Hungarian Grand Prix after getting complaints from the 2011 Formula 1 drivers last weekend.
After the recently held Hungarian Grand Prix, most of the drivers complained about the Hungaroring race circuit that it was very slippery in the rain and due to that, they had to face big problems during the Budapest race.
Gyulay talked to the media and said that he is seeking funds to resurface the track, but it seems impossible and they need some kind of state support for this purpose.
He further said that apart from the small resurfacing area of the racetrack, they have plans for some big improvements, which will be displayed in the next two years. In addition, the Hungaroring president stated that those improvements will attract the
Formula 1 fans towards the venue and that shows how important motorsports are in Hungary.
Ferrari driver Felipe Massa discussed with the media about the Hungarian racetrack that it was very slippery in the rain and there were no anti-slip paint used at the track. Due to that, they had to face big problems during the race.
Talking to reporters, Massa said, “It looked like the paint they were using was like ice – it was completely slippery. The anti-slip paint was not used here, so it was a big problem. We spoke to the FIA about it and they said it was something they needed
to control better.”
On the other hand, McLaren driver Jenson Button said that the safety of this track was pretty good. Therefore, he said there was no need to make improvements in terms of track safety.
Button mentioned, “The surface in the last corner is different. It feels when you have a hot tyre, you struggle to get grip through there. I don't know if it is the oil in the asphalt coming through to the surface, but most of the lap is fine. It is when
you get there you are skating around.”
The next round of the 2011 Formula 1 season will take place at the end of August after a summer break. Let’s see which team performs well on the grid in the second part of the season.
