Hungary beat Macedonia in preliminary round, Group A: Day four – European Water Polo Championships
Hungarian national team has continued dictating terms to their competitors as they beat Macedonia in their third Men’s water polo qualifying match of Group ‘A’ on day four of the 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Thursday,
January 19 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swim Stadium.
Hungary has remained unbeaten in the tournament so far and with their relentless, they are now ranked second on the Men’s points table. They enjoyed a comfortable win over Macedonian squad by making the score 14-9 after the four quarter game.
The match started with the supremacy of Hungarian players, who scored three consecutive goals in the beginning of first round. After a while, the Macedonian players redeemed themselves by scoring two goals, but their effort was shortly met with the ruthless
aggression of Hungarian squad, which scored fourth goal in last 15 seconds of the round. Hungary rejoiced a 4-2 lead after the first round.
The second quarter saw smothering efforts of both teams, which elevated their efforts and kept scoring goals one after another. Both teams scored four goals each and Hungary managed to sustain its upper hand over Macedonia, as the score went up to 8-6 after
the halftime.
Subsequently, the Hungarian team notched up two goals in round three and impeded all struggles of their opposing team to rush them over the points table. On the other hand, Macedonia succeeded in scoring a lone goal in round three, allowing Hungary to extend
its lead to three goals as the score remained 10-7 after the third quarter.
The same continued in fourth quarter, where Hungary advanced on the scorecard by accomplishing four goals while Macedonia failed to show any substantiate improvement on its end and scored two goals only. Hungary enjoyed the victory by a margin of five goals
in the 32-minute game.
Norbert Madaras and Denes Andor Varga of Hungary were the leading goal scorers of the match, as they chipped in three goals each for their team.
Furthermore, Hungary is now scheduled to compete with the strongest team of Group ‘A’, Greece on Saturday, January 21.
