Hungary capitulate as Montenegro wins semi-final: Day twelve – European Water Polo Championships
Hungary capitulates as Montenegrin squad won the Men’s semi-final round for first-fourth position on twelfth day of the ongoing 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Friday, January 27 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swim Stadium.
The Hungarian team demonstrated their relentless efforts but failed to overcome stupendous efforts of Montenegrin squad in the four-quarter game by a deficit of just one goal. With their unimaginable performance, Montenegro celebrated a 14-13 victory over
Hungary.
The European Championships are of utmost magnitude as these grant an opportunity to international players to improve their faults before the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The first quarter witnessed ruthless aggression of Montenegrin squad that notched up two goals in the initial three minutes. In contrast, Hungary also managed to ascend on the scorecard by two points and the score went to 2-all after the first round.
Montenegrin squad elevated their efforts in the second quarter, where they accomplished four goals while Hungary was able to augment their score by three goals and suffered a 6-5 loss from Montenegro after the first half.
The same continued in third quarter, where Hungarian players failed to make a significant change in their strategy and yet again achieved three goals. Just like the second quarter, Montenegrin team showed no mercy to their opposing team and raked four goals
to extend their lead to two goals as the score remained 10-9 after the third round.
The tables turned in the fourth quarter, where Hungarian athletes suppressed Montenegro’s two goals accomplishment by clinching four goals. With their exhausting efforts, Hungary managed to tie the match with Montenegro, making the score 12-12 after the
second half.
Subsequently, the referees were forced to give extra time to both teams. In the first half of additional time, both teams scored one goal while Hungary failed to overcome Montenegro’s lone goal effort in the second half and lost the match by one point.
Mladan Janovic of Montenegro was declared man of the match for contributing five goals in his team’s victory. Furthermore, Montenegro will now compete with Serbia for gold medal of the event.
