Hungary overwhelm Netherlands in preliminary round, Group A: Day two – European Water Polo Championships
Hungarian squad has overwhelmed Netherlands in their second qualifying match of Group ‘A’ Men’s water polo on day two of the 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Tuesday, January 17 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swim Stadium.
Hungary faced strong resistance from Netherlands in the first half, but with their relentless efforts in the last two rounds, they pocketed a commendable win by a margin of thirteen goals. Hungary grabbed an easy win over Netherlands with a lead of 19-6 in the four quarter game.
The first goal of the game was made by Tamas Zoltan Kasas of Hungary. His effort was followed by Lars Gottemaker of Netherlands, who scored the initial goal for his country. Subsequently, one additional goal was scored from both sides in the first quarter and the round ended with a 2-2 effort from both teams.
In the second round, Hungarian squad made no mistake and dictated terms to their opponents by striking four goals in a row. They hindered almost all goal attempts of Netherlands, which managed to pass the ball in Hungary’s cage just for once and the score went to 6-3 after the halftime.
Just like the first half, Hungarians gave no room to their opponents and continued their dominance by accomplishing five goals in the third quarter. Their elevated efforts shattered all hopes of Netherlanders, who succeeded in improving their score by just two goals. The score went up to 11-5 after the third quarter.
The Hungarian squad was inevitably strong for victory in the fourth round. They went wild in the final quarter and notched up eight goals while Netherlands found a room for scoring a lone goal only.
The crowd was stunned with the remarkable performance of Hungarian team that crushed all hopes of their challenging squad and made their way to the victory.
On the other hand, Gergely Kiss of Hungary was accredited for making a huge contribution in the victory of his team. Kiss made six attempts for the goal out of which five proved successful, thus, he was tabled as the best player of the match.
