Hungary surpass Great Britain in preliminary round, Group A – European Water Polo Championships
Hungarian squad surpassed Great Britain in their initial Women’s water polo game of Group ‘A’ on day three of the 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Wednesday, January 18 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swim Stadium.
The Hungarian team overwhelmed all efforts of their opposing team and rejoiced an easy win over Britain by a margin of 10 goals. The British team experienced ruthless aggression of their challengers in the four quarter game and lost their first match with a 19-9 lead.
The British squad managed to pass the ball in Hungary’s cage just for once in the first quarter. In contrast, Hungary notched up four goals in the same round and gained a lead of three goals as the score remained 4-1 after the first round.
In the second quarter, British players elevated their efforts and fought back by scoring three goals. Despite of their significant improvement, they failed to bring any harm to Hungarian squad that accomplished four goals in the second round to make the score 8-4 after first half.
Unlike the second round, British players once again remained helpless in third quarter. They accomplished three goals in the third round but this time, Hungary crushed their all hopes and responded by scoring seven goals. Hungary surged on the scorecard by extending its lead to 8 goals as the score was 15-7 after the third quarter.
Hungary’s win was inevitable after the third round and the fourth quarter was just a formality to prove their mettle. Nevertheless, the Hungarian squad yet again scored four goals in the final round. On the contrary, British team managed to improve on the points table by just two goals and lost their first game by 10 goals.
Hungary’s Rita Dravucz and Rita Keszthelyi scored four and five goals respectively for their team while Keszthelyi was announced as player of the game for scoring highest goals in the match.
Furthermore, the arena enjoyed noteworthy efforts of all players, who tried hard to claim victory for their respective teams whereas the session concluded after the completion of all listed events in Women’s corner.
