Hungary wins Men’s bronze medal by beating Italy 12-9: Day 14 – European Water Polo Championships
Hungarian squad occupied Men’s bronze medal by beating Italy in the final round at the 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands on Sunday, January 29 at the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swim Stadium.
The match remained pretty tough in the first three quarters, where Italian players smothered all efforts of Hungary in the first three quarters, but Hungarian team demonstrated their furious efforts in the final round and embraced victory by a margin of
three goals. Italy finished fourth in the tournament as they suffered a 12-9 loss from Hungary in the four-quarter game.
These championships were arranged by the European aquatic sports controlling body, Ligue Europeenne de Natation (LEN). With the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games, these championships were of considerable importance as these depict the standings of all international
teams at the upcoming battle royal.
The score remained equal in the first quarter, where both teams tried to prove their mettle over each other but notched up a lone goal only.
With their extraordinary efforts, Hungarian team suppressed all efforts of their challenging squad by stroking four goals in the second quarter. Their effort was trailed by three goals accomplishment from the Italian team and the score went up to 5-4 after
the first half.
The tables turned in the third quarter, where Italian players displayed their immaculate efforts and stunned the arena by claiming four goals. Hungary failed to overcome Italy’s effort and improved their score by just one fraction and the score turned up
to 6-8, Italy being in a lead of two.
In the fourth quarter, the arena saw ruthless struggle of Hungarian team, which marked six goals to prove their dominance while Italian squad secured just one goal and failed to earn third best spot of the tournament.
Peter Biros of Hungary clinched man of the match award as he accomplished six goals and played a vital role in his team’s win.
In addition, the session ended after the completion of all scheduled events while the Hungarian team was invited on the medal rostrum for awards and accolades at the medal ceremony of the championships.
