Hunter Haas back at home to participate in the Valero Texas Open – Golf News
Texan golfer, Hunter Haas, is back at home to participate in the Valero Texas Open, slated to be played at the AT&T Oaks Course at TPC San Antonio from April 19 to 22, 2012.
This year, Haas has played a total of 10 events on the PGA Tour and succeeded in making the cut four times without any top-35 finish.
While looking at the stats, one can easily say that he will be among the weakest contenders at the tournament. However, he is very much aware of the conditions at AT&T Oaks Course because of his experience on the venue.
He grew up playing on different courses in Texas and TPC San Antonio is one of his favourite golf clubs all over the world.
He was considered as an underdog last year, but finished at the 15th spot on the leaderboard, following his impressive performance in the tournament.
The only round that saw him go over par was the first round when he scored three-over par 75. Afterwards, he bounced back strongly with 70 – 71 – 71 in the remaining rounds to finish one-under par 287 for the tournament.
This speaks of his control over his game when he is playing on the home courses. Therefore, he must remember the mistakes that he made last year, especially in the opening round to post a better score this year.
Despite the bad form he is having, he definitely cannot be rated as an underdog this year because of his ability to score well on home soil.
Many golf analysts believe that players regain their playing forms often while playing home-based tournaments. Even if they fail to surge to the top of the leaderboard, they always try to give a tough time to their rivals.
Therefore, Haas may also trouble his competitors this year, with an aim to improve his record at the event.
Meanwhile, the defending champion, Brendan Steele, has also confirmed to participate in the event, while eyeing another win. Yet, Steele’s current form is not benefitting him for a win in the event.
