Hunter Haas celebrates his victory on the PGA Nationwide Tour Albertsons Boise Open
Hunter Haas celebrated his victory on the PGA Nationwide Tour Albertsons Boise Open on Sunday. Haas led the tournament till its end, holding a one shot lead with a 64. He collected his second title in the 2010 Nationwide Tour season with a 7 under. The win
attained by the 33-year-old gave him the endowment of a trip to the PGA Tour which is due to be held in 2011. Daniel Summerhays ruled the event for 54 holes with a 69 before Haas came into his own. Haas was tied with Summerhays for the first place, holding
a total of 263 with a 21 under.
According to Haas, it’s an awesome feeling to win a tournament. At the start of the event, his performance had been satisfactory which according to him, was a slow start. However, once he got the hang of it and got his game going, his play flew him towards
the top of the leader board.
Haas is also listed in the top 5 golfers in the money list. After his win at the Boise, the events prize money of $130,500 placed him on the 4th place from the previously held 12th place. This is Haas’ 4th career win which
has earned him a place in next year’s PGA Tour. The top 25 players in the money list have been assured of a spot for the 2011 Tour.
Haas has been playing the full season throughout the years 2001 to 2005 and has plans on staying confident. He says that for the rest of the year, he will try his best to remain confident and if that works, he will try to carry it forward to the next season
where he will be playing the 2011 PGA Tour.
The final round of the Albertsons Boise Open had Summerhays with a 3 stroke lead from Haas. Summerhays in the recent event was also looking for his second career win as a professional golfer.
The Texan, Haas, said that the only chance he had to win the event was by attaining a low round. With these thoughts on the night before the final round, Haas had a low round on Sunday with Jamie Lovemark at T7.
His competitor Summerhays had an impressive game, playing 3 consecutive birdies which had a start from number 2. He travelled to a 20 under par but settled with 14 straight pars in the end. As the sky changed from tangerine to grey, the star from the University
of Brigham started missing chances at the end and finished his game with 14 pars.
Summerhays feels like he played the best game in his life and critics don’t disagree. He played some excellent drives with some good wedge shots. The golfer however admits that he skimmed the edges on probably four to five putts.
Coming back to Haas, the Texan was two groups ahead of Summerhays. With Summerhays leading the leader board, Haas chased him down by playing remarkably well on the front nine by collecting 5 birdies. At the 10th hole, Haas tied himself for the
lead with Summerhays by playing another birdie. The game remained stagnant till the 16th hole where Haas carded one more birdie from a distance of 20 feet. Haas at the par 5 hole, travelled up and down the green bunkers to shuffle up the leaders
board.
Haas says that a birdie at the 16th hole was a must and he had to achieve it at any cost. He said that he played some good putts but the ball refused to go in. He however finished at the first spot in putting and reasoned his confidence as the
main reason behind it. Haas claimed that all one has to do is to feel like the best putter in the world because otherwise, the golfer may fail to achieve anything worthwhile.
